Cat 5 & 6
Cat 5 & 6 Fiber Optics Wireless Arrising Technologies Horizontal Cabling

Cat 5  technology is a baseband network.  This baseband network transmits original signals without modulation and therefore are digital. The whole bandwidth of the medium is used to carry  the simple transition, and  so the transition is high speed.

The channel capacity is shared by using time division multiplexes or switches sometimes called hubs.

The media

Twister pair cabling ( or cat5,6,7).
Coax cable (or thin coax and thick coax, 10Base2 and 10Base5 respectably).
Fibre optic cabling (multimode and single mode)
    Wireless (many different types)

The twisted pair cables consisted of two pairs of two insulated copper wires wrapped around each other. A shielded twisted pair cable (STP) are the cables that are covered with a metal braid to reduce outside electrical interference. The cost of this cable is more expensive, but as its characteristic is less prepense to interference. This makes it more efficient for cable running within noisy environments, eg. plant rooms, pocker machine rooms, computer rooms etc.
The more economical of the twisted pair is called Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP). Ethernet , Tocken ring, FDDI and ATM will all run on grades of UTP. and the most common grade used is known as CAT5.   but the are better out the with the name of CAT6, and a more efficient just realize CAT7.
